AMO AUTH can be used to change, display and regenerate the exec permission necessary for the execution of an AMO action.

An AMO action is the combination of an AMO name (noun, e. g. AMO=APS, AUTH, SCSU, WABE) and of an action verb (e. g. ACTION=ADD, CHANGE, DEACTIVATE, DELETE, DISPLAY), such as DISPLAY-APS, CHANGE-AUTH, DELETE-SCSU, ADD-WABE¹. The exec permission itself is an integer number (called class) between 0 and 15².

On the one hand every AMO action has assigned to it a standard value for the exec permission which has proven itself more or less adequate in the course of Hicom evolution. In general lower permission classes are assigned to simple harmless actions and higher ones to more complex actions. In order to approach customer specific needs these permissons may now be changed by the new AMO AUTH.

On the other hand every user gets from the system administrator a certain combination of permission classes. The user is then authorized to call up any AMO action whose permission class is present in his or her class combination.

Action CHANGE-AUTH manages a single AMO action whereas actions DISPLAY-AUTH and REGENERATE-AUTH can render information about more than one AMO action in case the AMO name (AMO) and/or the action verb (ACTION) is not specified in the command call. For DISPLAY-AUTH and REGENERATE-AUTH it is also possible to restrict the output to those AMO actions whose permission class differs from their standard setting (TYPE=DELTA). Moreover, instead of the current settings one can let the standard class assignments appear here (TYPE=STD). This should make the resetting of the usual class assignments easier.

The use of AMO AUTH is also helped by letting the action verb (ACTION) be abbreviated to its first 2-4 letters, provided that it can still be uniquely identified within the set of all possible action verbs³.

The program takes the first verb found if the abbreviation is too short for unique identification.
