Parameter Description
The AMO COPY enables the copying of files and hard-disk areas to and from hard-disk, tape and cartridge. File names may be partially qualified.
–
Copying SAM-files:
SAM-files exist on hard-disk, tape and cartridge. They are copied with the aid of the DMS-commands PUT and GET. When SAM-files are overwritten, they are first deleted and then newly created.
–
Conversion of file-types:
By declaring the parameter DESTTYPE, SAM-files can be copied to byte-files and vice-versa. For this action, the record-length-fields are removed or added as necessary. When copying byte-files to SAM-files, the record-length of the destination-file can be defined by declaring the parameter RECLEN.
–
Copying hard-disk-files:
When a byte-file on the hard-disk is overwritten, the file is not deleted and then newly created, but physically overwritten byte for byte and shortened or lengthened as necessary. This means that the directory-files remain unchanged. However, the more often the byte-files are extended (i.e. overwritten with larger files), the longer the access-time to the files becomes. For this reason, the user has the option of deleting a file to be overwritten using the AMO DEL (Delete Files).
