Parameter Description
The option of duplicate recording exists for the purpose of increasing the data reliability and data availability. For this purpose, a duplicate area (slave HD) is assigned to the original area (master HD). The original area is copied to the duplicate area (synchronization) before starting operation. If the "logical area name" begins with the letters "RO" (read only) during duplicate recording, adjusting the duplicate area for each runup is omitted. The two areas are synchronized only when activated with DSKX (= new startup). Therefore, only those areas that are written once, that were never changed, and where successful writing can be traced by the service personnel (e.g., recorded announcements on the VMS residing on hard disk), may receive the "predicate RO".
Prerequisites for creating a pair allocation for duplicate recording by using the AMO DPSM (
Device Pair Allocation , Service Module):
•
Two areas configured by means of the AMO DASM.
•
Both areas must not be activated.
•
Both areas must not belong to the same controller.
•
Both areas must be created on different devices.
•
Both areas must agree with respect to track, sector, and area sizes.
•
’PHY’-areas used by UNIX in previous variants will only be activated physically and cannot be double recorded, either.
