The tracer provides the system specialist with a tool by means of which message traffic between the individual program complexes of the system and LAN objects can be conveniently traced.
Further it is possible to record the most important dynamic memories of call processing, depending on line-addresses either referenced in messages or user-defined on CALL-gates of GDT.
Therefore the Tracer is an important on-line test aid for use in the field and at customers’ premises.

Communication with the terminal is handled by AMO TRACS. Although the tracer can select internal messages and other trace objects and write them into the buffer without this AMO, the AMO is essential for changing the selection and for outputting the trace objects.

Note

For the IS, a similar tracer tool is available, which is controlled with the AMO TRACA (see AMO description of TRACA - System Message Tracer (IS)).
