A physical device (hard disk) can be subdivided into fixed memory areas.

In the mnemonic name, areas are denoted by the letters ’A’ and ’E’ to ’K’.

Every physical device has a management area which contains the following data beginning at sector 1:

•

Partition table to distribute the physical device between RMX and LINUX

•

Data over that on the physical device initialized areas

•

Coordination table if more than one controller is connected at the SCSI bus

•

Dependability data

The entries into the data base occur with the AMO DASM.

The areas are arranged and initialized on the physical device with the AMO INIT.

NOTE: The management area is a protected area. A device contains up to 7 user areas. Flash Memory have only one management area which, however, covers the entire range. No areas will be added/deleted to/from an external device. An attempt to add/delete areas on a controller to which an external device has been assigned will be rejected with an error message.
