The Hicom tracer provides the system specialist with a tool by means of which message traffic between the individual program complexes of the Hicom system and LAN objects can be conveniently traced.
Therefore the Tracer is an important on-line test aid for use in the field and at customers’ premises.

Communication with the terminal is handled by AMO TRACA. Although the tracer can select internal messages and other trace objects and write them into the buffer without this AMO, the AMO is essential for changing the selection and for outputting the trace objects.

Note

For the SWU, a similar tracer tool is available which is controlled with the AMO TRACS. The AMO offers a slightly more extensive range of trace options (see AMO description of TRACS - Operation of the System Tracer (SWU)).
