10.42.4. Length of PIN Previous topic Parent topic Child topic Next topic

The length of the particular type of PIN is defined centrally; it is possible to define the same length for all PIN types, or different lengths for different PIN types. Each PIN number (except for COSXCODE) must be unique in the system.
For the network-wide PIN feature, the same PIN numbers may be assigned in different nodes. The length of a particular PIN type may also vary from node to node.
The manually entered PIN/PCODE consists of a maximum of 12 characters, either digits or the character *. The PIN for a card also comprises 12 characters (digits, letters, special characters) from the ASCII character set. The hash character '#' is no longer permissible as a PIN/PCODE/SI character, since this character is used as an end-of-string character for the network-wide PIN feature.
Before the length of a PIN number can be changed, all PINs of this type must be deleted.
