Parameter Description
 
The AMO REST enables restart of a system unit by means of a command on the service terminal.
A distinction is made between three forms of restart:
•
Soft restart (SR):
The processor concerned resets and boots. Neither code or static data nor the peripheral units are loaded. Through-connected two-party calls are retained.
Both duplex and simplex soft restarts are possible. A simplex soft restart is always carried out when the standby system half either does not exist or is not in the standby state.
•
Hard restart:
The processor resets and boots. All checksums are checked. Any subsystems showing inconsistencies are reload, as is the peripheral device data.
If the processor concerned is an active ’controller half’ in a duplicated configuration and a soft restart with switchover is not possible (e.g. because of a hardware fault in the standby processor), all existing connections are cleared down.

Reload:
As for hard restart, but all subsystems are reloaded.
•
Change the switch that indicates wether the rescue SW from default load table to be used. (CHANGE-REST:YES/NO)

Rescue SW:
A basic Hicom 300E System (rescue SW) is introduced for increasing the remote reliability of the Hicom System.
In case of no stable SW release is available on the Hicom Harddisk, neither the primary Load on the :PDS nor the gold load on the GLA, RMX will try to bring up an reduced switch which allowes an remote access by LINUX means. For this the startup the ADP part is sufficient including the linux loader and TCP/IP.
The remote reliability can only be archieved, if the remote service access is realized via:
–
a modem connected to a seperate line, which is not looped back via the Hicom
–
a customer LAN in which the WAN access is not routed via a Hicom trunk.
Due to this prerequisite, the escalation level to Rescue SW will be configurable by administration.

The dynamic state of the unit can also be displayed with the help of AMO REST.
•
New switch CONFREST in AMO FUNCT:
When the switch CONFREST (Suppress REST warning) in AMO FUNCT is unchanged (default is ON), then a soft restart, hard restart or reload is performed without asking for acknowledge (works as nowadays).
If CONFREST=OFF, the AMO REST will ask for acknowledge from user if the AMO should countinue with the command execution or break.
Notes
•
Soft Restart is possible only for active system units.
•
Restart/Reload of LTG or CSN is only allowed for Hicom 390 and 391.
•
Should a major error occur during the processing of a soft restart, an escalation to a hard restart is possible.
•
Restarts occurring in servers are logged statistically with integrity counters. Multiple restarts at a lower level can thus escalate to a higher level restart.
•
An SWU controller half undergoing a restart is allocated the dynamic state NOT_AVAILABLE.
•
During the restart of an SWU, an overlapping of restarts can occur due to the independent triggering by the fault analysis complex. The restart level specified in the AMO will only apply when it is higher than that of any dependability restart.
•
Servers are not accessible during a restart, hence making restart overlapping impossible.
•
The correct initiation of a restart by the AMO (output of advisory H1) doesn’t guarantee the actual execution by the dependability. System parameters which can’t be checked by the AMO may prevent success. E.g. a soft resp. hard restart of CC declines when DB is empty (reload possible). The reasons of error in this case are shown by the SIT report.
Stand Alone Operation
Duplex systems offer the option of using the standby processor for service functions, e.g. to load a new APS, without any interruptions to normal system operation. For this stand alone mode, two new processor states, ’stand alone’ and ’stand alone finished’, have been defined. The desired state must be entered on AMO callup. The AMO then checks whether this state is possible under consideration of the following restrictions:
 
SWU:
CC-A or CC-B.
Restart level:
Hard restart or reload.
It must be noted however that the user is ultimately responsible for the careful and correct usage of the stand alone mode commands.
