Kari's Law compliance
Being compliant with Kari's Law involves telephone systems supporting specific notifications in case of an emergency call.
INFO:
Kari's Law and Ray Baum Act are specific laws governing dialing, notifications and location information required when users dial emergency services – 911.
Requirements for Kari's Law:
  • Any user can direct dial to 911 without requiring an access code.
  • Provide a notification to a central point (e.g. E-mail, SMS) anytime the 911 emergency number has been dialed.
Ray Baum's Act requires an additional feature:
  • The system must transmit critical data directly to 911 centers, including data about the location where the call has been initiated (Location Information for the 911 caller (LIN)).
The notification shall include the following information:
  • The fact that a 911 call has been initiated
  • A valid callback number
  • Information about the caller's location (LIN)
The OpenScape 4000 system will send a F2757 HISTA message whenever an emergency call has been initiated, giving the possibility of taking actions based on it.
