For the answering device (ANS), the recorded announcement facility (RA/RAS) and dictation equipment (DICT), the time interval should be longer than the time required for a tape change, in order to avoid messages to the dependability system.
 
For the entrance telephone (DOOR), the time selected can be very short because the line is not monitored.
